words by Eamon Whalen
When I interviewed the rapper, producer and monotone samurai Chester Watson a year ago for our fourth issue, he expressed an interest in branching out beyond his dense, intricate rapping style into perhaps something more melodic on occasion. On The Storm, a new song released days ago, he does just that. If you're familiar with Chester's previous work, this will sound far from anything he's done before. Yet somehow, the gloomy, layered auto-tuned-tinged singing is completely within his range. Here's to Winter Mirage, Chester's next release on POW Recordings, continuing to push creative boundaries.
