Listen to Irish Artist Bonzai's New Genre Defying Project "Sleepy Hungry"

With the explosion of success by UK artists like Skepta, Stormzy and Little Simz as of late, the road has been paved for more artists from across the pond to flourish in America. Enter, Bonzai. Born in Illinois before moving to Ireland at the age of 2, the now London resident has caught the attention of BBC radio personality Annie Mac along with Beats 1 correspondent Julie Adenuga.

Describing her sound as "punk R&B," Bonzai has been working alongside Mura Masa (affiliate of Nao) as of late to release her latest EP Sleepy Hungry through his newly formed label, Anchor Point Records.

Relentless, future-sounding production leads the way as Bonzai's smooth vocal ability meshes the line between electro punk and R&B. Even if you wished to place Bonzai in a box, you wouldn't be able to do so as each track is a new exploration or different sounds and genres. From the distorted, moody "Faze" to the bass-booming anthem "Daniel Gets It Wrong," Bonzai's eclectic sound has a little something for everyone.
