Just In Time, Natia Drops The Summer Song You Need

words by Eamon Whalen

Natia is the latest signee to our friend Jeff Weiss' upstart label POW Recordings, and like most everything Jeff cosigns in his writing and on his seminal blog Passion Of The Weiss, Natia is at once a highly-skilled, unique and vastly underrated rapper. Though Natia hails from Inglewood and his video for "Summer Time" has all the undeniable southern California signifiers -- convertibles, skateboards, swimming pools, rolling hills and palm trees -- there's something about his boisterous charisma that brings to mind a brash East Coast rapper like Redman. But don't worry, the only nostalgia is the vintage FUBU. If you need further convincing, he's the only rapper I've heard namedrop Afu-Ra and Mac Dre in the same song he talks about landing a nollie-heelflip in Timberland boots.
